Head Reference Librarian (FT)

The Parkland Community Library in Allentown, PA is currently seeking F/T Head of Reference to lead its busy Reference department.

Requirements:

Master’s Degree in library science, from an accredited college or university

Must be patron oriented and have worked in a library for at least one year as a professional librarian while performing duties in reference

Three (3) years in a supervisory capacity preferred.

Must have experience with collection development, computers, reference databases, on-line reference sources, tablet and computer instruction and workforce development.

Knowledge of HTML authoring software, ILS software and familiarity with computer networks and server maintenance desired.                                                                                                                          

1 night per week and 1 Saturday per month required.                                                                               

Salary: $34,000 + some benefits including vacation, sick, personal and holiday time.

Satisfactory completion of a criminal history, child abuse screening, and FBI fingerprinting prior to employment and every three years thereafter is required.

P/T Tech Room Lab Assistant, 20 Hours per week temporary position

  • Assist patrons with the use of internet, creating email addresses, and use of MS Office products

  • Assist patrons who need additional computer time using Envisionware software

  • Assist patrons with releasing print jobs and payment for printouts

  • Assist patrons with copier and public fax

  • Monitor computer use

  • Other duties as assigned

Substitute Reference Librarian

The Parkland Community Library is seeking an enthusiastic, customer-service-oriented individual to fill a Substitute Reference Librarian position, working on an as-needed basis to maintain staff coverage during library hours. This position will also be included in the weekend rotation and work one Saturday every 5 weeks.   Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

 

The Substitute Reference Librarian will cover the Reference Desk and

  • Provide information services for the general public

  • Assist the public with finding library materials

  • Instruct patrons on how to use Library databases, eBooks, and online resources

  • Provide reader’s advisory services

  • Provide reference and research assistance

General computer skills required, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, web browsers, and email.    Knowledge of computer systems and related technology (eReaders, iPads, tablets, phones, etc.) preferred. Good interpersonal and teaching skills.

Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program preferred. Some library experience preferred.

The library is looking for a temporary desk clerk to help through the summer.  This person will check materials in and out.  They will sort materials and shelve books.
