We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and creative candidate to add to our staff for an Early Literacy Librarian / Specialist position. Our ideal candidate will be skilled at planning and executing storytimes and events for children ages birth – 2nd grades and willing to assist with furthering our library’s mission and strategic plan. Our Parkland Community Library Youth Services Department serves youth from birth through age 18 and their parents.

Early Literacy Library Assistant(Part-time)

 15 hours per week (During summer, an extra 5 hours is available due to Summer Reading Program)
 Wednesday and Thursdays – 9:30am – 2:30pm
 Mondays - 4pm – 9pm
 Two Saturday per month (Scheduled between 9am – 5pm or 9am – 2pm in the summer) This would replace
Monday evening shift for the week.

 Completed or currently enrolled in a college program in a related field
 Experience working with children and the public as well as familiarity with libraries
 Knowledge and appreciation of children’s literature
 Early literacy training and knowledge of how to present storytimes

 Reports to our Head of Youth Services

 Coordinates and implements Toddler and Preschool Storytimes
 Helps plan and execute story times and summer programs for ages birth through 2nd grades
 Helps with youth displays
 Assists with collection maintenance through shelf reading and weeding
 Aids in events on and off site
 Supervises teen volunteers when they are in the library
 Assists in maintaining youth shelves
 Assists in maintaining Youth Services’ circulating kits
 Other duties as assigned

 12 hours per week 
 Wednesday through Saturday availability with flexible hours

 Responsible for returning materials to our shelves and occasional circulation desk tasks.

 Reports to our Circulation Coordinator

 Shelves materials
 Rearranges shelves as directed
 Reads shelves
 Charges out and checks out materials as directed
 Other duties as assigned by Circulation Coordinator
