Celebrate Lunar New Year At Your Library

The Chinese New Year celebration begins on Sunday, January 22, 2023. The Lunar New Year is observed yearly following the lunar cycles at the second new moon following the Winter Solstice. Then, it is time for the Spring Festival, which coincides with the start of longer days, shorter nights, and the long-awaited spring!

2023 is the year of the Water Rabbit, ending on February 9, 2024 (Chinese New Year’s Eve). The sign of the rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture. Of the five elements, water holds the characteristics of being gentle, amicable, and able to adjust readily to different conditions. The Five Elements Theory is a Chinese philosophy used to describe interactions and relationships between things. Read more about that here.
