March News

2025, What’s Happening at Your Library

March is here, and new exciting items are waiting for you at the library! We appreciate all the love and support shown during Library Lovers Month – it warms our hearts. Our dedicated team ensures you have the best library experience possible, so feel free to let us know how we can continue to serve you better.

As we wrap up the Winter Reading program, we hope it helped kickstart your reading goals for the year ahead. Whether you want to dive into a new genre or revisit an old favorite, we have many books to explore. Remember, a good book can transport you to different worlds and bring peace and joy to your day.

Remember to take some time for yourself this month and indulge in the pleasure of reading. We have something for everyone, whether you prefer fiction, nonfiction, or something in between. So come down to the library, pick out a few new items, and let yourself get lost in the magic of storytelling. Happy reading!

New to our Collection

Parkland Community Library is one of 30 schools and libraries in Pennsylvania awarded the $5000 Excellent and Equitable Youth Services Grant. This grant provides funds to evaluate and curate inclusive youth collections that reflect and serve the unique needs of youth ages birth to 18.

In addition to developing appealing fiction and nonfiction collections, the library staff received professional support through participation in a community of practice sessions that will facilitate the information exchange of quality library materials and best practices for collection development and community youth engagement.

Patrons will find “windows and mirrors” in the library’s youth collections. In education, “windows and mirrors” refers to incorporating literature and curriculum that both reflect students’ own identities and cultures (mirrors) and offer perspectives on other cultures and experiences (windows), fostering empathy and understanding. Materials purchased through this grant will be designated with a special bookplate.

This project was partly made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

New Tech Coming Soon!

The Parkland Community Library received 20 HP EliteBooks for patron use from the COVID-19 ARPA Capital Projects Fund Digital Connectivity Technology Program (DCTP)  and the DCED – Department of Community and Economic Development. The library will receive access to a SkillUp™ PA group to utilize the online training platform. Once ready, the laptops will provide patrons access to job, health, and other training to decrease the digital divide and encourage digital literacy, equity, and education.
