My Snowy Day Book Craftivity
After your literary adventure, warm up inside while you show us your snowy day! You will have the opportunity to construct your very own Snowy Day Book Craft. Draw your self-portrait while donning Peter’s famous red coat and answer questions about your snowy day.
Would you like to see your craft on our library’s walls? We would love to display it! Stick it on our Snowy Day display and see what others had to share!
“If we could see each other exactly as the other is, this would be a different world.”
-Ezra Jack Keats
Ezra Jack Keats (1916-1983) pioneered American children’s literature. He based the lives of his multiracial characters on his childhood but added loving parents, friends, and pets. He wanted no child to be an outsider. Keats was one of the first children’s book authors to use an urban setting for his stories. He is accredited with introducing multiculturalism into mainstream American children’s literature.
Published in 1962, The Snowy Day was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1963. Keats described creating The Snowy Day “like a child playing. I was in a world with no rules.” Keats experimented with techniques he had never tried – combining collage, handmade stamps, and spattering ink – to create the striking illustrations for which The Snowy Day is now famous. Almost twenty books written and illustrated by Ezra followed The Snowy Day, six of which include Peter as he grows from childhood to early adolescence.
The Snowy Day is our featured StoryWalk book for the winter season. Take a stroll while immersing yourself in this classic story. Check the Events Calendar for all The Snowy Day activities this month!
