Overdrive App Retiring

On May 1, 2023, the OverDrive App will no longer allow you to access eBooks through Libby.

We encourage our patrons to make the switch to Libby, OverDrive’s newer reading app. Libby is made by the same people with the same goal of connecting you to your library and your favorite books, audiobooks, and magazines.

OverDrive launched the Libby App in 2017, intending to create a simple and intuitive library app. OverDrive closely reviewed feedback from librarians and patrons and accessed what could be improved. Libby is now a great app for everyone, and there’s no longer a reason to have two apps that do the same thing.

Kindle Fire & Libby

Libby is now available to download from the Amazon Appstore. Going forward, users with Amazon Fire tablets should download Libby directly from the Amazon Appstore instead of manually sideloading the app.

The OverDrive app will be removed from the Amazon Appstore on June 7, 2023. Fire tablet users who already have the OverDrive app installed can continue to use it for now, but it is no longer in active development. The OverDrive app will display messaging encouraging those with compatible devices to upgrade to Libby.
