This month reminds us that even small acts of kindness can create a positive ripple effect, inspiring others to join the volunteerism movement. We want to spotlight a few of our volunteers! Their efforts aid the library, and The Friends of the Library promote our mission.
The 2024 Unsung Heroes Award
presented by the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Service
Congratulations! LuAnn Epstein has been selected as a recipient of Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Service’s 2024 Unsung Heroes recognition. The selected individuals will be recognized and honored as Unsung Heroes at a ceremony that will take place on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Zentz Community Building—Fellowship Hall of the Fellowship Community, 3000 Fellowship Dr., Whitehall, PA.

What drew you to it? Books from the library saved me during the Covid shutdown. I wanted to give back & thank “books.”
What do you enjoy most about volunteering? Friendly staff, smiling at patrons, discovering books beyond my usual genres.

Meet the Friends of PCL’s Volunteers

My first experience with PCL Friends began in 2011 when my son needed community volunteer hours for confirmation. The PCL Annual Used Book Sale was held at Lehigh Community College then, and volunteers were needed. Thirteen years later, I’m still volunteering for the PCL Friends Annual Used Book Sale and Friends Book Shop.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering? I enjoy the friendships that are made by working together. We support the library, and we support each other too.
Pat enjoys peacefully reading historical fiction in her favorite chair.

Joanne’s love of books and the location brought her to volunteer at the library. She loves reading romance and mysteries in the comfort of her living room.

Martha’s love of libraries and belief in their mission led her to volunteer in her middle school library. Though busy working, she finds more time to volunteer now that her children have graduated from high school.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering? I particularly enjoy shelving—I find it satisfying. I also enjoy talking about books and being around readers. Book people are the best people!
