​Parkland Community Library offers Medicare Enrollment Assistance by PA MEDI, formally SHIP. This program offers one-on-one appointments with a certified Medicare Enrollment Counselor who can help with enrollment or overview questions. Appointments can be made through our events calendar.

What a Medicare Counselor can help with:

PA MEDI is here to help you! Part of a nationwide network of State Health Insurance Assistance Programs, PA MEDI has provided Medicare assistance and information to Medicare-eligible individuals since 1995. Operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, PA MEDI is the known and trusted local resource for Medicare help. All services are free and confidential and delivered by specially trained counselors.

Free, unbiased, personalized help with detailed information

Those looking to enroll will be provided information on the following topics:

  • Original Medicare
  • Medigap (Medicare supplement plans)
  • Medicare Advantage plans
  • Prescription drug plans
  • Enrollment assistance
  • Medicare rules, notices, and billing concerns
  • Medicare financial assistance programs
  • Medicare appeals

PA MEDI provides easy-to-understand, objective help and information for those on Medicare, their families, and caregivers. PA MEDI does NOT sell Medicare insurance products or recommend insurance agents or brokers.

During open enrollment:

Appointments are available on Wednesday mornings from October 9, 2024, through December 11, 2024.

Three appointments are available each Wednesday at 10am, 11am, and noon.

Other months
(Not open enrollment)

Appointments are available on the second Wednesday of the month in January-June.

Break: No appointments will be available in June or July.

After the break, appointments will resume on September 10, 2025.


How to schedule an appointment at the library:

  • Go to the library home page of Parkland Community Library
  • Click on the word EVENTS.
  • Click the arrow to display the month you want to visit the library.
  • Click on the PA MEDI Medicare Enrollment Assistance event
  • Click MORE DETAILS
  • Scroll down to select the time you would like to come (10am, 11am or 12pm)
  • Fill out the form above the time you selected
  • Click on the blue REGISTER box
  • You will receive a confirmation email for your appointment.

Other options to schedule an appointment:

Speak to PCL’s Adult Services department. Call Mariann K. at 610-398-1361 Extension 117.

Your message should include the following:

  • Your name- spell your name if necessary
  • Your phone number
  • The reason you are calling

What happens next (when you have a scheduled appointment):

You will receive an email from Stefan at volunteermedicarecounselor@gmail.com the week before your appointment.

Please respond to this email.

If Stefan does not receive your reply promptly, your appointment will be canceled.


Visiting the Parkland Community Library:

The library is located in the South Whitehall Township campus. Please enter through the main campus entrance. Parking is available in front and on the side of the library.

Arrive at your appointment 10 minutes early. If you are late, your appointment may be rescheduled.

Check-in: once you arrive, check-in at our reference desk past circulation.
