A PCL Communizine: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
What is Parkland making? Parkland Community Library is creating a community zine filled with art, writing, photography, and creative work made by the people who live here.
For our first issue, we’re inviting Parkland residents to submit original work for a chance to be included in print.
VOLUME 1: “HERE”
Our first issue is loosely inspired by the theme HERE.
What does “here” mean to you?
It could be Parkland. Your neighborhood. Your home. A place you love. A place you miss. Where you are right now. Where you wish you were. Something about this community that everyone knows, or something only you seem to notice.
But the theme is a jumping-off point, not a requirement.
Your work does not have to be about Parkland or even about a place. We want this zine to be a snapshot of what people in our community are creating, thinking about, and experiencing right now.
WHAT CAN I SUBMIT?
If it works on a printed page, we want to see it.
Submissions may include:
- Poetry
- Short stories and flash fiction
- Personal essays and reflections
- Photography
- Drawings and illustrations
- Comics
- Collage
- Paintings and other visual art
- Creative nonfiction
- Reviews
- Lists, observations, and assorted thoughts
- Other weird and wonderful things that belong on paper.
Visual artwork can be submitted as a clear photograph or scan of the original.
WHO CAN SUBMIT?
Anyone who lives in the Parkland community is invited to submit.
You do not need to consider yourself an artist or writer. No publishing experience is necessary. Beginners, lifelong artists, occasional doodlers, secret poets, photographers, journal scribblers, storytellers, and everyone in between are welcome.
NEED A PLACE TO START?
Think about:
- What do you want your neighbors to know?
- What does Parkland look like through your eyes?
- What does home mean to you?
- What is something around here that people overlook?
- What do you wish existed here?
Or forget the prompts entirely and send us something you’ve made that you want other people to see.
THE FINE PRINT
Submissions must be original work created by the person submitting them. Work should be appropriate for inclusion in a public library publication. Written works should be 700 words or less.
Parkland Community Library reserves the right to select submissions for publication and make minor formatting adjustments as needed for the zine’s layout.
Creators retain ownership of their work. By submitting, you give Parkland Community Library permission to reproduce your submission in this issue of the zine and in materials promoting the zine.
Due to space limitations, not all submissions will be included in the final zine. Contributors whose work is selected for publication will not be notified individually.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Submit your work by November 30, 2026.
Email your submission.
Please include your name and requested credit. Contributors may choose to have their work published under their full name, first name, pen name, or anonymously.
Selected work will appear in The Local Fold: A Communizine, Volume 1: HERE.
