August Library News

2024

It’s vacation season! What books are you planning to read on your travels this month? See what’s happening at your library. Don’t forget to check back for August news, as we will update our blog throughout the month!

The Summer Reading Club ended on August 3. It was the last day to log in or enter raffle tickets by 1pm. If you are not using Beanstack, remember to hand in your Summer Reading Club reading logs and gameboards! We encourage everyone to keep reading and tracking their goals if they finish the challenge. However, you are not eligible to collect more prizes. Teen and Kids’ Raffle Winners will be announced on Monday, August 5th! Adult raffle winners will be announced during the Closing Party.

Reminder: The North Whitehall Township Book Drop has moved to a temporary location during a year-long campus renovation. It is still on campus but has moved to make it accessible during construction.

PCL Garden Club

We hope you had a great time at the club’s lesson on composting on July 24th! It was wonderful to see 15 participants actively engaging in the activity and creating their mason jar compost bins to take home. Composting is a fantastic way to reduce waste and help our environment. We wanted to warmly welcome all new participants who joined us for the first time. We’re thrilled to have you as part of our club and hope you continue attending future events and workshops.

Please join us weekly on Wednesdays at 5pm. We suggest you wear gardening clothes and bring gloves. Weather permitting, the club visits the on-premise community garden for hands-on learning.

The Lost Bookshop

Evie Woods

A lost bookshop is waiting to be found on a quiet street in Dublin. For too long, Opaline, Martha, and Henry have been the side characters in their own lives. But when a vanishing bookshop casts its spell, these three unsuspecting strangers will discover that their own stories are every bit as extraordinary as the ones found in the pages of their beloved books. And by unlocking the secrets of the shelves, they find themselves transported to a world of wonder– where nothing is as it seems.

The Sicilian Inheritance: A Novel

Jo Piazza

Sara Marsala barely knows who she is anymore after much hardship. On top of that, her beloved great-aunt passes away. But Aunt Rosie’s death also opens an escape from her life and a window into the past through a plane ticket to Sicily, a deed to a possibly valuable plot of land, and a bombshell family secret. As Sara discovers more about her family, she also realizes she is coming head-to-head with the same menacing forces. At once an immersive multigenerational mystery and an ode to the undaunted heroism of everyday women, The Sicilian Inheritance is an atmospheric, page-turning delight.

Trust

Hernan Diaz

In glamorous 1920s New York City, two characters of sophisticated taste come together. One is a legendary Wall Street tycoon; the other is the brilliant daughter of penniless aristocrats. Steeped in affluence and grandeur, their marriage excites gossip and allows a continued ascent — all when the country transforms. TRUST puts the story of these characters into conversation with the “the truth”-and in tension with the life and perspective of an outsider immersed in the mystery of a competing account. The result is an overarching novel that becomes more exhilarating and profound with each new layer and revelation, engaging the reader in a treasure hunt for the truth that confronts the reality-warping gravitational pull of money and how power often manipulates facts– Provided by the publisher.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
